Rich Not Helping Poor Fight Climatic Change

Bali, Indonesia, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Latin American countries demanded rich countries increase their financial support to help the world”s poorest nations adapt to the effects of climate change.

During the 13th UN Lecture on Climatic Change, Ministers of the environment of Latin America demanded industrialized countries to help them mitigate the consequences of global warming.

Cuban Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Jose Antonio Diaz Duque regretted that the most developed country -US – and the one that emits more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere remains unmoved.

This happens at a time when more than 190 nations make real efforts to reach an agreement, expressed openly referring to the US.

Chilean Minister of Environment Ana Uriarte expressed that “affluent countries have the imperative to adopt determined and strong measures to face this phenomenon”.

Even though climatic change affects the whole world, the poor nations are the ones to suffer the most and to have less capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change against the increase of global temperature.

Global warming will bring changes in rains, droughts and floods due to the increase of sea level, among others.

That is the reason why the countries gathered in Bali try to reach an agreement to create a way for a future agreement to replace Kyoto protocol.
