Residents said bullet-riddled bodies of the five constables were strung from a tree in Deh Rahod district of Uruzgan province.
Police chief of the province Juma Gul Himmat said enemies of the country, the term Afghan officials use for Taliban, were responsible for killing the policemen.

Taliban usually target or kidnap local officials, including policemen, doctors, engineers, schoolteachers and pro-government clerics and later kill them on charges of spying for the government or the foreign troops.
