New Delhi: Aaj Tak, the Hindi news channel that has been broadcasting videos of Hindutva workers confessions have been ordered to be off air in Gujarat. An Order to that effect was issued by the District Magistrate of Ahmadabad, Mr. Dhananjay Dwivedi today. It prohibited broadcasting or rebroadcasting of programmes like "Tehelka-Aaj Tak Khulasa", "Operation kalank" and "Gujarat ka sach" being telecast on Aaj Tak and IBN7 depicting visuals and statements of people pertaining to 2002 communal riots.

Many areas of Gujarat reported that Aaj Tak was blocked by cable operators. Today Aaj Tak and IBN is off the air in Gujarat.

Shabnam Hashmi of ANHAD (Act Now for Harmony And Democracy) who have been active in Gujarat for number of years demanded immediate restoration of these channels.

“It is clear from the expose that The Chief Minister, the then Home Minister not only provoked, encouraged the massacre of Muslims and destruction of their property but ensured that mass murderers and rapists got a safe hiding. People involved in the crimes of murder and rape have claimed that they were been actively assisted by the police, administration and the political leadership of the state led by Narendra Modi,” Said Shabnam Hashmi about the Tehelka operation. By keeping channels off the air, Mr. Modi is trying to keep the people of Gujart in the dark.
