“A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden truck in the Maragvillage in the Zummar town, and blew it up in the afternoon,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The powerful blast resulted in the killing of eight people and wounding of 20 others, along with damaging several clay houses in the village, the source said.

Iraqi security forces immediately cordoned off the scene to secure the area, while ambulances rushed to evacuate casualties, he added.

Mosul, Iraq’s third largest city, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has long been a hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
