Lucknow: Social activist Teesta Setalvad and former Vice-Chancellor of Lucknow University Prof. Roop Rekha Verma yesterday visited the village of Dhanni Deeh where 17 Muslim were sexually attacked in July of this year.

The publicity of this gruesome attack by upper caste Hindus of neighbouring village has not helped in getting justice to these extremely poor Muslims. Rather, it has made their lives even more difficult. The only road connecting this remote village to the outside world is now manned by upper caste Hindus and Muslims are restricted from leaving the village. Even doctors are not allowed to tend to any sick in that village. This was revealed by Ms. Setalvad and Prof. Verma after their visit to the village.

Local administration has not taken any steps to provide protection to Muslims of the village. Muslims of Dhanni Deeh are living a fearful life afraid of their life, honor, and property. Ms. Setalvad and Prof. Verma are planning to visit Director General of Police to enquire why no protection has been provided so far.

They will also ask National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to make public its report. NHRC visited this area towards the end of July but report is yet to be released.
