New Delhi : Hundreds of people were injured in different parts of India after violence erupted between Hindus and Muslims over India’s victory against Pakistan in Twenty20 Cricket World Cup.
Media reports said the worst hit areas were Indian Capital, occupied Kashmir, Assam, Uttarkhand and Uttar Pradesh where Hindus attacked Muslims while celebrating the Indian victory. The police was resorted to fire in the air to disperse the mobs.
In New Delhi, a group of Hindus raised slogans against Pakistan after the victory in Mayrohar police station. Soon, two groups of Hindus and Muslims started pelting stones against each other, injuring scores of people. Heavy contingents of police reached the spot to control the situation. Arrests have been made and cases have been registered.
Meanwhile, more than three hundred persons were injured in the Indian capital in different road accidents during the victory celebrations.
According to “Asian Age” at least six policemen and thirty people were injured in Rajouri in occupied Kashmir in clashes that broke out after a crowd of celebrating Hindus threw firecrackers into a mosque where Muslims were offering special Ramzan taravih prayers.
Peace was established in about two hours after the first clash, but Rajouri observed a spontaneous shutdown on Tuesday during which sporadic violence was reported from parts of the town. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area.
