Heavy rains and cyclonic winds lashed the border districts of Banaskantha, otherwise a dry area even during rainy season, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana and Surendranagar.

The Met department has forecast heavy rains in Valsad district in the next 24 hours.

Several farmers are hoping the rains will not destroy their standing crop.

It can damage kharif crops like wheat, cotton and mango. The wheat, castor seed, cotton, sesame, cumin seed and fennel are ready to be brought to the market from Saurashtra. At this juncture, the sudden rain is causing acute anxiety among the Saurashtra farmers.

The atmosphere in the state changed in the last two days following reports of depression in the Arabian Sea and met experts warned of un-seasonal rains.
