“We have developed web-based software to disseminate information on dispatch of essential commodities to PDS shops from Food Corporation of India (FCI),” R.S. Sharma, information and technology secretary, told IANS.

He said the move was to redress complaints by consumers on about non-availability of food grains at the PDS outlets.

“The information will be available on the official website of the state government,” he said

“Details of rations items made available at PDS outlets (for various categories) and other government schemes can be found out at the website.”

Anyone can get information whether a particular PDS shop has lifted food grains or not and the quantity of food lifted by the outlet, he said.

The proposed system will also carry information related to wholesale and retail prices of essential commodities, list beneficiaries of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, creation of database and quick retrieval of information about families of various categories at district and block level.

It will also provide details of ration cards through use of names and address and have detailed information related to various acts, rules and circulars related to PDS.

Jharkhand could be late starter in IT sectors but it is catching up the revolution. The state has already started e-governance. All the 24 districts, departmental secretaries and ministries are connected through video conferencing.

Jharkhand has also prepared village profile, electronic tender system and electronic dispatch system.
