Two Kingfisher airlines flights IT-306 and 512, Go Air flight 105 and Indian Airlines IC-865 were diverted to Ahmedabad and several departures were delayed by 30-45 minutes, said an airport official requesting anonymity.

Since the main runway was undergoing repair work, airport authorities decided to use the secondary runaway.

“Due to poor visibility, the operations on the secondary runway were also shut from 1.20 p.m. to 1.35 p.m.,” the official told IANS. At around 2 p.m., the main runway resumed services,” the official said.

Earlier, just after takeoff the pilot of a Jet Airways flight to Ahmedabad informed the airport authorities about some pebbles on the runway.

“After inspection, it was found that the surface of the runaway was damaged and there were potholes,” the source added. Had this not been checked, the loose pebbles and potholes could have led to tyre bursts and engine damage.
