At present, there are no government hospitals in the state having a burn unit with ICU facilities, officials added.

The upcoming burn units will be set up in various districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Chandauli, Sitapur, Ferozabad, Muzzafarnagar and Gorakhpur, officials said.

“The move was long overdue. We have been facing a lot of problems while treating burn injuries,” Kanpur chief medical officer Subodh Kumar Tiwari told IANS.

Burn patients are susceptible to various kinds of infections. A separate chamber equipped with temperature regulation facilities is ideally required for treating the patients, officials said.

“Now, with the forthcoming specialised units we will be able to offer such facilities,” said Tiwari.

According to health officials, on an average every year about 5,000 people die of burn injuries due to lack of proper treatment.
