Raipur : The Chhattisgarh police have arrested a class 12 student and four teachers on charges of cheating and impersonation, a senior officer said Monday.
The arrests were made Sunday night in Janjgir district, some 200 km from here.
Porra Bai, a student of the scheduled caste community, ranked first in the class 12 exams among 190,567 candidates. The results were announced May 26.
“We have arrested the girl student and four teachers during overnight raids and they will be presented in court,” P.S. Bara, district superintendent of police, told IANS.
He added more arrests were in the offing.
The arrest of the topper, Porra Bai was made in response to an FIR lodged by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) in June against the girl and twelve others.
The CGBSE filed an FIR after its probe panel found that Porra Bai, student of Birra Government School in Janjgir district that is notorious for cheating in exams, topped the board exam with 484 marks out of 500 by cheating.
The panel in its 420 page-report said her exam copies were written by subject experts outside the exam centre. Not a single mistake was detected in any of her answer-sheets.
The Board had also lodged an FIR in June against Himani Tiwari, who stood third among 296,227 students in the class 10 exams, and six others including her father in a similar case.
