Named ‘Annam’, the national food and agro biodiversity festival is being organised by the city-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) along with the support of various state government departments.

“We want to emphasis on the concept of good food, and also to highlight the link between good food and agro-biodiversity. We will list out the items that should be avoided,” CISSA president G.G. Gangadharan told reporters here.

He added that the festival aimed to equip people to go against the organised corporate moves against the traditional food habits and agricultural practices through fast foods and colas.

More than 250 stalls will showcase the ethnic food of several states in the country and also conduct detailed exhibitions of how to prepare such food. Utensils for preparing the traditional food would also be displayed.

CISSA, at the end of the festival, will set up district committees to take forward the agenda of promoting ethnic food in all the 14 districts of the state.

“We will partner with two NGOs from each district and also create awareness on the need of opening a chain of restaurants. We have also got the nod from several glamour personalities, who will be our brand ambassadors,” added Gangadharan.

The festival will also have seminars and workshops on topics like organic farming and terrace farming.
