Metro Cash and Carry to open retail units in Punjab

Chandigarh : German retail giant Metro Cash and Carry will open its first retail centre in Punjab at Zirakpur town Jan 15.

The opening of the outlet is part of the company’s plans to invest up to Rs.9 billion (around $185 million) in the state in the coming months, according to a government official.

“The German company will establish a chain of wholesale distribution cum retail centers in different districts of the state,” the official said.

A six-member delegation led by Erik Schmit, Metro Cash and Carry director (development and expansion), also met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to apprise him about the company’s investment plans.

Zirakpur town, in Punjab’s Mohali district, is around 10 km from here. Outlets will also be opened in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Mohali districts.
