Jeremic, addressing an urgent meeting of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), held here at the Serbian request, said Belgrade would not recognize the independence of the province.

He called on the OSCE members who recognized Kosovo’s independence to reverse their moves. Jeremic said the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo would negatively affect the future of OSCE.

The Serbian government has asked UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to reject the declaration of independence because it was violating UN resolution 1440 and the sovereignty of Serbia, said Jeremic.

He said several countries have recognized Kosovo’s declaration of independence which was a “blatant assault” on Serbia.

Jeremic, at a news conference later, said Serbia would not trade its EU membership with any part of its territory.

He said Serbia was committed to diplomacy and dialogue in dealing with the Kosovo issue and the military option was not considered.
