The press service said the main goal of his two-day visit is to attend an informal summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a loose alliance of most of former Soviet republics, scheduled for Friday.

This will be the second visit by the Ukrainian leader to Russia this month. Yushchenko visited Moscow on February 12 when he reached a compromise with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a plan to settle Ukraine’s $1.5 billion debt for Russian gas deliveries.

His arrival will follow a meeting between Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her Russian counterpart Viktor Zubkov in Moscow, during which the February 12 natural gas commitments were confirmed. Tymoshenko also met with President Putin.
