Los Angeles : The American television network NBC has cancelled coverage of the Jan 13 Golden Globe Awards show because of the Hollywood screenwriters strike, the Los Angeles Times has reported.

Quoting a memo sent from the network to movie studios, the paper said Monday that the usually glittering show would be replaced by a press conference and clips featuring the nominees.

“At 9 p.m. Sunday (Jan 13) there will be a press conference covered by NBC News announcing the Golden Globe winners. We are negotiating with Dick Clark Enterprises for a one-hour retrospective/clip show, and we will air a dateline with clips and interviews with nominees,” the paper quoted the memo as saying.

“At 10 p.m. we will broadcast an ‘Access Hollywood’ style Golden Globes party show … visiting the various parties in Hollywood,” the memo said.

The development made the Golden Globes Awards, which is staged by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to honour the year’s best film and TV performances, the most high-profile casualty of the writers’ strike.

The strike now runs in its third month as writers and producers have been unable to agree on payment for shows distributed over the Internet.
