Cairo : Iran said Tuesday its ties with Egypt have been deepening as could be seen by the visits of top officials to each other’s countries.

Ali Akbar Nateq-Nouri, the advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, made this statement after arriving in Cairo Tuesday to attend the parliamentary session of the Islamic countries, official IRNA news agency reported.

Talking to reporters, Nateq-Nouri said, “The visits by Iranian officials, including former secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, have had constructive impacts on Tehran-Cairo relations.”

He thanked Egyptian parliament Speaker Fathi Sorour for inviting him to attend the inter-parliamentary meeting and said that the members of Iranian delegation will meet with some Egyptian officials on the fringes of the meeting.

The two-day Parliamentary meeting is due to start Wednesday to review the current issues including the tragedy going on in the occupied lands of Palestine.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Islamic countries was established in Iran in 1999. He has 37 member states.

Ghalam Ali Hadded-Adel, speaker of Majlis (Iran’s parliament), has also left Tehran Tuesday for Cairo to attend the meeting.

Iran and Egypt broke off their diplomatic relations after Iranian Islamic revolution in 1979.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Monday said that the relationship was “going ahead in a natural way”.

The recent thaw in relations also includes the landmark phone conversation between Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak.

According to reports, both the presidents discussed the Palestinian issue and other regional and international issues in their first direct talks.

However, Egyptian officials reportedly said that some security concerns still needed to be resolved before full relations could be restored between the two countries.
