Chhattisgarh doctors call off strike

By IANS,

Raipur : About 300 junior doctors of Chhattisgarh’s biggest public hospital Thursday called of the strike they began June 21 to press for a hike in stipends.

“We met Chief Minister Raman Singh last night (Wednesday night) and he agreed to increase our monthly stipend. Now we have called off the strike,” Narendra Narsing, head of the Junior Doctors’ Association, told reporters.

The strike had severely hit the 700-bed Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Hospital, which treats about 400 patients every day.

Though the government had invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) June 26, it had no effect on the striking doctors.
