Kolkata : KFC, the leading brand of US-based Yum Brands Inc, plans to invest around $2 billion and open 100 outlets in India in the next two years, a top company official said.
After opening the third KFC outlet in Kolkata Wednesday, KFC India's marketing director Unnat Varma said: "KFC, with a market of $12 billion worldwide, plans to invest around $2 billion in India over the next two years to strengthen its presence in the cities where they already exist."
"Then we are looking at the tier-II and tier-III cities."
"Currently we are enjoying a year-on-year growth of 100 percent. Though the contribution from Indian market to the total KFC turnover is a miniscule amount now, we rate India as the number one player potential wise," Varma said.
Currently KFC has 34 outlets in nine cities that include Pune, Chandigarh and Ludhiana, besides the metros.
Asked about expansion plans in eastern India, he said: "We should have 10 outlets here by the next two years."
