Maulana Mahmood Madni talks to TwoCircles.net on Jamiat crisis

By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.net

(Maulana Mahmood Madani, general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i Hind, in a telephonic interview with TCN held on 9th March, elaborates on the crisis that evolved from the 6th March meeting of the Jamiat’s working committee in New Delhi. At the meeting, a no-confidence motion was passed against Jamiat president Maulana Arshad Madani. He walked out of the meeting and the committee appointed Quari Mohammad Usman, deputy director of Darul Uloom Deoband, as caretaker president of the Jamiat.)

TCN: Has Jamiat Ulama-i Hind, as perceived generally after the 6th March meeting, split?

Not at all. This is a wrong perception being spread by some people. Jamiat stands united today as it was before the meeting. The crisis, if any, will be resolved on 26th March in the general council meeting to be attended by around 5,000 members.

TCN: Why was the emergency meeting of the working committee called on 6th March?

A day after the 28th February meeting of the working committee which ratified election results of three state units of the organization, Maulana Arshad Madani, without taking the working committee into confidence, dismissed 22 of 40 members of the committee. This was the immediate reason for the 6th March meeting. The Jamiat constitution says that general secretary can call a working committee meeting after consulting president but he can also call the meeting on his own if such demand is made by at least five members of the working committee. After the 6th March meeting, seven working committee members asked the general secretary to call the meeting.

TCN: Maulana Arshad Madani says his dismissal is unconstitutional as the working committee has no right to bring a no-confidence motion against the president. What do you say?

The Article 92 of the Jamiat constitution says the working committee can take decision on issues about which the constitution is silent. So his dismissal through the no-confidence motion is well within the letter and spirit of the constitution.

TCN: After the development, where is the Jamiat heading to?

The working committee has called General Council meeting on 26th March. The council to be attended by around 5,000 delegates from around the country will have right to approve the dismissal of Maulana Arshad Madani and appointment of Quari Mohammad Usman as caretaker president or restore the position of the dismissed president.

TCN: What is the agenda for the 26th March General Council meeting?

What will top the agenda is the Council’s stand on the developments that took place on 6th March. Besides, some major issues confronting Muslims in India will also feature the agenda. They include reservation for Muslims in employment, educational institutions and legislative bodies, implementation of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee, tabling the Jagannath Mishra Commission Report in the Parliament and terrorism. Palestinian crisis will also be part of the agenda.

Mehmood Ahmed Madni seems to

Mehmood Ahmed Madni seems to be quite ignorant of what the Muslims of tye sub-continent wanted. He seems to be on the payroll of Indian government for speaking the language spoken by nationalist Hindus only.

He should just focus on how to lead prayer and not try to become the leader of the Muslims. He does not deserve that at all in any sense of the words.

Madani... O' Madani ! Kahaan ho.

No personal insult intended., i have heard Madani over the years. Why doesnt Madani set up 1 (one) quality high school for Muslims (anywhere in India)., and enrich his community with one institution. i am sure with his ability and capability, securing finances shouldnt be much of a problem. But muslims were never interested in Institution Building. Sir Syed built a Madrasa in 1875... and for the past 125 years, they are still praising him (in prose and poetry), while Hindus have produced 1 Sir Syed every single year.

I would approve Madani as a leader if Madani sets up an Institution for his community. You need doers not talkers. Those who bark dont bite the bullet of success.

Our Leaders look only upward for Rotis, which r thrown by bosses

u have raised valid points. Our leaders unfortunately look upwards for some Roti might get thrown at them.

Do not have time to look downward to community. There are many aspirants and roti thrown at them are very few. If keep thinking about community then they can not help themselves.

This maulana must be busy in securing his RS seat for next term.

Mahmood sb has not asked even a single question in last session. See, it proves has not looking downwards.

Both this uncle and nephew are fooling Muslims.

Let the mercy of Allah come upon J.U.H

We should always think of our Muslim nation. So, We must have to stand by J.U.H

Political Maulana

This rascal is enjoying his seat in the parliament... somebody pls ask him what could he or other so called resourceful Muslims do while there was bloodshed goin on in Gujrat???

Response to Sheikh (not Maulana) Mahmood Madani

At the outset I will say that Sheikh Mahmood Madani is at fault on two obvious counts: one, our beloved prophet, PBUH, would never attempt to embarrass a guest in public and two, I think the Sheikh was totally out of line when he said that Indian Muslims were capable of defending themselves; Former President Musharraf was referring to the sufferings of Muslims in Kashmir and, if Sheikh Mahmood cannot see that suffering, may Allah give him the vision.
I can understand where Sheikh Mahmood is coming from, after all he has political aspirations in India, which he cannot achieve if he does not stand up and speak the "secular" language and praise the Hindus for supporting Muslims!!
I don't know which world he lives in if he can deny the following:
1. The movement in Kashmir of the past 60+ years and the atrocities committed against Muslims there.
2. The incident in Gujarat, Modi's subsequent audacity and his subsequent success in elections.
3. The suffering of Abdul Rehman Antulay at the hands of both Congress(which claims to be secular) and BJP only because he raised a valid question but which did not serve Hindu extremist objectives!!
At the end I will close the comment with a statement that Former President Musharraf has demonstrated a stronger capability of tolerance by not getting into an argument with the likes of Sheikh Mahmood Madani.

well, first of all it was not

well, first of all it was not appropriate for musharraf to go to india and talk to people like mehmood madani. if muslims of india have such thinking then pakistanis should realise that every person of india now supports indian govt. policy to destabilize pakistan and making him alone in the world whose latest example is the decision of ICC not to organize cricket world cup in pakistan which was strongly supported by india. but i also want to tell the seculer muslims of india that they will see how their beloved hindu brothers will treat them if (naozubillah) pakistan would not remain in the map of the world (inshallah it will never happen). and secondly i think mehmood madani is satisfied by the situation of muslims like him, shahrukh khan salman khan and other so-called indian muslims but he can not see the situation of poor muslims in india or the situation of muslims in the world at large(which is due to the policies of america and india's friend israel). in the end, i want to ask mehmood madani that what mr. varun gandhi was saying, mr.madani can cpomment on that as he comment "darely" on musharraf speech, who was a "guest" on his soil. truely, we, pakistanis, were very much impressed by hospitality of indians whenever pakistani cricket team went there for matches and now indian muslim leader has shown his hospitality also. keep it up as such things will remain "eye openers" for those pakistanis who think we should promote friendship with india.

Maulana Arshad Madani

ASAK ! I watched your advice given to EX President Parvez Mussaraf in New Delhi.I am a US citizen and watching you in America I really could not believe that someone has the rationale like you. Please accept my congratulation and compliments for a very apt advice given to him. You have made us (Indians) proud of you. I wish there were many more like you who would promote communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims.

salim

Wake up Mr. Salim

Wake up Mr. Salim, the advice to Former President Pervez Musharraf was not by Maulana Arshad Madani but by Maulana Mahmood Madani - and they are both in some sort of a political battle.
Don't you worry about people like Advani, Modi and this latest BJP politician from the Nehru Dynasty??

What is the problem?
