Govt. considering a compensation package for Bhagalpur riot victims

New Delhi: The Union government is considering a compensation package for the victims of Bhagalpur riots of 1989-90.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Home, Manikrao Hodlya informed Rajya Sabha on 11th March that the Center had received a proposal from the Government of Bihar for grant of similar relief and rehabilitation package to the victims of Bhagalpur riots of 1989-90 as given to the victims of anti-Sikh riots of 1984. The Ministry of Home Affairs is considering the proposal, the house was told. The final decision is yet to be taken.

More than 100 people were killed in the riots. Eighteen years after killings, 14 people have been convicted.
