New Delhi: The Congress-led UPA government at the Center has released more than Rs. five crore as grant in aid for the centrally sponsored scheme of merit-cum-means based scholarship to students belonging to minority communities in West Bengal for the year 2007-08.
The Union government released Rs. 5,03,65,129, that is 100% Central share to the West Bengal government. On the scholarship Rs. 4,97,65129 would be spent while Rs. 6,00,000 would be spent on setting up an IT-enabled cell for the implementation of the scheme for the 2007-08. The scholarship will be granted to 1897 students. For the scholarship, 1892 students have been selected based on merit-cum-means criteria.
