The “incredible feat” of police has been achieved in Naugaon town in Chhatarpur district of the state wherein even the charge-sheet against tiny-tot Mrigendra, alias “Sonu” was presented in the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate.

The story unfolded when the little boy was presented before the Magistrate. Now, the police officials of Chhatarpur district are shedding their responsibility by blaming the investigating officer, but the incident has yet again brought the working of policemen under scanner.

About three months ago i.e on February 7 this year, one Hariharan Gangele was allegedly shot at in Virupura village. The man managed to survive. The Naugaon police on his complaint registered a case of attempt to murder against Pratap Singh Rai, Sughar Singh, Raghvendra Singh and his younger brother. Three days after the registration of the case, the policemen arrested Pratap Singh while other accused remained at large.

The police eventually presented challans against the accused after 90 days in Naugaon Court. Interestingly, when the judge saw Raghvendra and his younger brother Mrigendra, he referred the case to Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, as Mrigendra was only three years old.

It is learnt that the police have removed the name of the child from the charge-sheet. Sources said that the SHO concerned may face action.

However, on the contrary Additional Superintendent of Police Chhatarpur Anil Kumar Mishra has reportedly defended the policemen and said that only one person was arrested in the case. ([email protected])
