JIH central team visits Bihar’s flooded region

New Delhi: A central Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) team led by Vice President, Prof Siddique Hasan, Secretary, Ejaz Aslam and Bihar JIH president Qamrul Huda, visited Bihar’s flood affected areas to evaluate relief and rescue works.

After visiting various relief camps run by JIH, government and other NGOs, Prof Hassan said, “situation here in Bihar is still very pathetic and government is not doing much while its camps are in very bad situation,” says a statement.

The team also had three trained doctors from Kerala for relief works. During last two days, the team has visited seven camps in Araria town and Forbesganj. Out of these seven camps visited by the team, five run by JIH and another two run by the government and local people. JIH started its rescue and relief operation since the second day of Kosi deluge.

Around 11,000 people have been rescued till now by the JIH-run boats. JIH is running 8 boats and about 190 fulltime workers are with the organization.

In many camps, most of the people there were women and children. Around 5,000 people are staying in 12 camps arranged by JIH, of which six camps are in Araria, 2 in Supaul, 3 in Saharasa and 1 at Supaul-Nepal border. Iftar arrangement has been made in 31 Masjids of affected areas. Five thousand food packets were distributed to the victims apart from camps’ residents.
