BJP demolished 300 temples in Gujarat says congress candidate
Congress to expose Advani’s Hindutva at Gandhi Nagar
By Andalib Akhter, TwoCircles.net,
New Delhi: Congress party is all set to expose BJP’s Hindutva at its hinterland. The party has decided to highlight the issue of demolition of over 290 temples in Gujarat, particularly in Gandhinagar. Modi government had demolished over 290 big and small temples in the name of development causing much resentment in the local people. BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani is seeking re-election from Gandhinagar.
Local citizens had expected that Advani would prevent Modi from ‘irreligious’ demolition but the local MP never showed his displeasure against Modi’s ‘bulldozers. Till now, Advani has not uttered a word of sympathy nor has promised to rebuild the demolished temples.
Talking to TwoCircles.net on phone the congress candidate from Gandhinagar Suresh Kumar Patel said: “This is very emotional issue for us. These people have demolished 300 temples and now they are talking of construction of temple in Ayodhya”. He said that people of Gujarat are very angry over the anti religious activity of Gujarat government. “Even Advani did not speak a word when temples were razed” he said adding the leader of opposition rarely visit the constituency.
Claiming that this time Advani would face defeat by Congress, he said he was a local and now the local people would no more tolerate the double standards of BJP. Patel is currently an MLA from Kalol near Gandhinagar.
Here too a senior leader of the party told this correspondent that the congress would also raise the issue at national level to expose BJP
Modi, considered the poster boy of Hindutva, had launched a demolition drive against illegal structures including temples in November last. Big protest were taken out against Modi over the issue
A “Mandir Bachao Sangharsh Samiti” was also formed but Modi bulldozer stopped only after demolition worked was completed. Sunil Oza, a former legislator of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who later formed Maha Gujarat Janata Party (MJP), said at that time that: “Modi is a true successor of Mahmud Gazni, Babar and Aurangzeb.”

destroy all religious structures blocking progress
TCN must appreciate the BJP Govt of Gujrath for destroying temples to improve the infrastructure. Most of the roads in "Old City Area" of "any city" in India is so narrow that it has even become difficult to walk. Add to this the "temples under every Pepal Tree", some "old Mazars"/CROSS and the traffic jam is permanent. In many places all over India, "encroaches on public space like foot path" etc construct a temple at "one end" of the street and a "Mazar/ cross" at the other end thus effectively preventing eviction of encroachment. When most of the old roads were constructed, the explosive growth of vehicles in the last 10 years could never been anticipated. So all religions must support shifting/ breaking of all religious structures blocking progress in widening of road. It would be better if the HINDUS break/shift the temples similar to what has been done in Gujrath, and Muslims/ Christians break/destroy their own religious structures blocking progress. PROGRESS SHOULD NOT BE POLITICISED.
a clear stand on the temple issue.
I wish tcn instead of beating around the bush comes up with a clear formulae for the hindu-muslim temple controvery, namely the solution to the very emotional issue of mosques built on the foundations of Hindu temples destroyed by over zealous muslim invaders.
Trying to sweep this issue under the carpet by giving pathtic generalizations'oh its all divide and rule of the british the Hindus were very happy under muslim rule','there is no proof','it happened a long time ago',etc etc will just give the ultra right hindutva forces (for whom i have very little respect btw) more munition to throw at muslims in general.
Why is TCN trying to act so
Why is TCN trying to act so gleeful in printing such an article ? Majority of these "temples" were little more than roadside structures which ended up obstructing traffic and causing hassles to common people - Muslims included.
And trying to draw a parallel between a such structures & the the Ayodhya temple (built upon Lord Ram's birthplace,no less)is a sad act of journalistic perversion.
I don't think you give 2 hoots about the 'temples' destroyed in Gujarat - you are just so blindly focused on tarring and feathering the BJP that you have inserted this article only to say "Hey!! look the BJP is also desroying Hindu temples!"
I wish your sympathy for Hindu temples also extended to Ayodhya,Kashi & Mathura.
Did not expect this from you TCN !
Outdo
You can't "outfox" a fox. You can't "out-saffron" the BJP. The congress is digging it's own grave by trying to play such stupid tricks.
