But the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is not impressed.

“Does an honest person need such labels? He or she proves that through his or her work. Actually, this party indulges in so much falsehood that it has to advertise itself thus,” CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose told reporters here.

Referring to the Trinamool manifesto, Bose said: “We all know that West Bengal has a total population of 8.5 crore. But the party’s manifesto says there are eight crore arsenic-affected people in only nine districts of the state. Does that mean only 50 lakh people live in the remaining 10 districts?”

He said greater Kolkata on its own has a population of 80 lakh.
