New Delhi/Nagpur : With the expected April-May Lok Sabha polls drawing near, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Congress are gearing up their party machinery for the electoral battle.
The BJP’s three-day National Executive and National Council meet, which kicks off Friday in Nagpur and will be attended by 8,000 party delegates, will draw up a roadmap and prepare strategies for the elections.
The Nagpur conclave, the last ahead of the polls, will adopt three resolutions – on the country’s “sagging” economy, the political situation and the turmoil in Sri Lanka, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad told reporters.
Among the 8,000 delegates would be MPs, party legislators, chief ministers and senior leaders.
As part of its poll strategy, the Congress is holding a convention of the party’s top district and block level officials here Feb 8 to get inputs from grassroot level workers and prepare a strategy for the elections accordingly.
“Such conventions help us to understand the needs of the workers and voters at the grass roots level. We get valuable inputs from our workers, which helps us in preparing a better strategy for the elections,” said B.K. Hari Prasad, Congress general secretary.
Almost 7,000 Congress workers and officials are expected to participate in this convention.
The Congress has hired two ad agencies – James Walter Thompson (JWT) and Crayons – to prepare the campaign strategy for the parliamentary elections.
In its attempt to reach out to every voter group, different campaign strategies would be evolved, like the use of electronic media and internet, a party official said.
