Patna: Almost the defunct, cash strapped, without the advantage of resources at its end and devoid of any academic activity worth its name, state government run Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University(MMHAPU) of Patna has got a new lease of life due to the initiative of its newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Dr Qamar Ahsan.
On the recommendation of the VC (took charge of office on 25th of January 2009) to the state government for the clearance to Maulana Mazharul Haq University for conducting the Alim and Fazil exam (equivalent to BA and MA) so that students can become a qualified degree holder approved by the University Grants Commission, has come to see the light of the day.
Giving the details of it to TwoCircles.net, VC, Qamar Ahsan said: “Government has given its clearance, granting permission to the University to conduct the Graduate and Post Graduate level(Alim and Fazil) exams which earlier used to be conducted by Madrasa Education Board. Since Madrasa Board is not authorized to issue any degree to the students of Alim and Fazil courses, therefore in the absence of issuance of it, students use to suffer a lot, as far as their job prospects and further academic pursuits are concerned”.
Following the clearance from the State government the MMHAPU syndicate held its meeting chaired by VC Dr Qamar Ahsan, in which the examination schedule was decided.
7000 students enrolled with 110 madarsas across the state are expected to appear for exam, which will be conducted from June onwards at all the district level centres being set up by the MMHAPU.
Last date for filing examination form is April 30.
The university is also running nine vocational courses which were started in July 2008 and the exam of its first batch will start from 15th of March 2009.
Giving details of it, VC, Qamar Ahsan said that the courses offered are functional Arabic, functional Persian, Panchayti Raj Accountancy, Journalism and Mass Communication, BCA, BBA and B Lib—These will be conducted through knowledge resource centers, wherein vocational course students will utilize the lab and campus facilities of other partner universities, but exam and degree will be conducted and awarded by the MMHAPU.
Established on the 10th of April, 1998, the Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University is named in the honour of famous freedom fighter of Bihar.
