Arif Naseem Khan becomes first Maharashtra Muslim home minister
By TwoCircles.net staff reporter,
Mumbai: Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan has become the first Muslim to be Minister of State for Home (Urban) of Maharashtra since the state came into existence in 1960. He was included in the state cabinet on February 19.
Two-time MLA from the Kurla assembly constituency, Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan came into light during the 1992-93 communal riots in Mumbai when he played a key role in setting the first peace committee in suburban Ghatkopar. Khan took oath of office along with Narayan Rane and Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. They were allotted portfolios late on Friday night.
While Vikhe Patil was made minister of education and law and judiciary, Narayan Rane was allotted the portfolio of industries, ports and Khar land. Naseem Khan was given additional charge of food and drug administration besides home.
I will fulfill all my responsibilities. To bridge the gap between public and the police, to ensure justice to all and to restore police faith in public, will be my priority,' Naseem Khan has promised.
