All India Quran contest held at Mumbai Haj House

Mumbai: For creating enthusiasm among madrasa students to memorize well the Holy Qur’an and beautify its recitation, Idara Dawatus Sunna (IDS) organizes Qur’an competition every year. It held the 10th contest on Thursday at Haj House in Mumbai.

The president of IDS Maulana Shahid Nasiri Hanafi said: ‘Since 1998 we have been arranging All India Musabaqatul Qur’an wherein students from across India who, are hafiz of Qur’an and are below 16 years, are eligible to participate. The institution bears all the expenses of the participant students from fare to food.’

The competition is organized in the memory of Haji Moeen Ahmad, proprietor of Urdu Times Daily.

In the competition as many as 300 students from various madrasas all over India except Bengal, took part. Among them Muhammad Farooq Muhammad Shahid (Jalna), Muhammad Aqeel Bin Nawab (Gujarat) and Muhammad Mujeebur Rahman Abdullah (Malegaon) secured 1 st, 2nd and 3rd position and were awarded with Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 in cash. Notably, Muhammad Farooq is blind by birth.

While Muhammad Asim Bin Hafiz Muhammad Saleem (Bihar), Muhammad Rashid Muhammad Sameeullah (Bihar), Muhammad Umar Farooq (Gujarat), Sayyid Muddassir Abdul Mateen (Malegaon) and Muhammad Ansar Aneesur Rahman (Jalna) too were given consolation prize of Rs 1,000 each.

On the occasion, too many awards were conferred on different people of their fields. Nishan-e-Ummat Award, which was introduced in 1998, was given to MLA Haji Basheer Moosa Patel. Nishan-e-Sahafat, Milli Sitara, Nishan-e-Khidmat, Nishan-e-Tib and Nishan-e-Hifz Awards were given to Abdur Rahman Siddiqi, editor Urdu Times Daily, Haji Aslam Shaikh, principal of Saboo Siddiq Polytechnic College, GAS Ansari, Maharashtra Haj Committee chairman, Dr Haji Nooruddin and first position holder Muhammad Farooq respectively.

Idara Dawatus Sunnah is a socio-religious institution which was established in 1993. Besides holing Qur’an competition programs, the institution patronizes some madrasas too and provides assistance regardless of religion, in the case of disasters.
