Priority to redeem the Wakf property from encroachers: TN Wakf Board Chairman
By Najiya O, TwoCircles.net,
Kaviko Abdul Rahman, famous Tamil poet and chairman of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board, has vowed to redeem the properties of the Board from encroachers. Education is very important for the development of Muslims. Muslims can solve all their problems if they stand united, he said.
Talking to the TwoCircles.Net, the newly-elected Chairman of the Wakf Board said that he would give priority to redeem the properties of the Board from encroachers. “Properties of the Board worth around Rs. 90,000 crore have been encroached all over the state. I plan to redeem them with the support and cooperation of the Government,” he said.

Committed to the educational development of the community in the State, Kaviko plans to open elementary schools and ITIs. Beginning a university providing free education to Muslims is his dream. Muslims in the State are educationally backward. Illiteracy and poverty are very common. Mr. Kaviko said that the Wakf Board had plans to provide financial help to poor students for higher education. There are many educational institutions run by Muslims, but a majority of them are self-financing institutions where the fees are unaffordable for the common people. Religious education is provided in Masjids, but not in an organized matter. The new chairman also wishes to begin an organized Madrasa system. Educating and empowering women will be one of main focuses, he said.
Kaviko also plans to build hospitals in the four major cities of Chennai, Trichy, Madurai and Kovai (Coimbatore). The hospital in Chennai would be made a centre of heart transplantation.
Muslims are there in every party in the State, but the parties generally see them as mere vote-bank. A close friend of the DMK chief and State Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Kaviko is all praises for his friend. “Karunanidhi has got a good heart towards Islam and Muslims in general. He has done a lot for Muslims. Even though Karunanidhi is a known atheist and Kaviko a famous Islamic scholar, they have a lot in common, says the poet. “We have many common interests like the popularization of Tamil language and literature, attitude towards general issues, etc”.
Majority of the Muslims in the State follow the Hanafi Mad’hab and speak Tamil, the mother-tongue. But of course there are Urdu speaking people too. Some people follow the Shafi Mad’hab.
“I advocate the unity of all Muslims. If Muslims unite, they can solve all problems. Muslims are killing each other in Pakistan, Iraq and elsewhere. Muslims should be united under one umbrella. Islam is enough for Muslims. All parties and organizations divide Muslims, keeping one group against others. Muslims have got a very bad name by terrorism. The Qur’an doesn’t approve of the killing of innocent people,” he concluded.

TAMIL NADU STATE PLUS TWO EXAMINATION RESULTS

On the whole 10 students were State Toppers - 4 students secured first rank, two students second rank and four students third rank.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi honoured the 10 toppers in the Plus Two ( XII standard ) examination at the State level. He presented cheques for Rs.50,000, Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000 to 1st, 2nd and 3rd rank holders respectively. These were the enhanced award amounts, thanks to the Chief Minister’s gesture. The government would meet all the expenses of the 10 rank holders for their higher educations in medicine and engineering courses like MBBS and B.E. The Chief Minister also presented them certificates notifying that the government would sponsor their higher education.
It is a well known fact that Muslim students are coming out in flying colours mostly in non-Muslim institutions. It is a good sign for our secular and plural society. The records of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Graduates Association are a testimony to it. No doubt there are also some institutions founded and managed by Muslims like Crescent Matriculation and Higher Secondary School in Chennai, T. Abdul Wahid Matriculation and Higher Secondary School in Ambur etc. which are reputed for their excellent education and discipline.
The Muslim community is proud of the above two Muslim students and all other top rank holders. The schools where they studied are also praise worthy. Our thanks and congratulations to them.
Our Managements, teachers, parents and students should get inspiration from their excellent performance and create an "educational atmosphere" everywhere to enable our students to prove their mettle and be successful in life for the betterment of the community and country.
Muslim run colleges in Tamil Nadu
I would like to congratulate Kaviko Abdul Rahman. I met him once when he was working in Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi around 1980. He is a nice person. We hope and pray that he will achieve whatever he intend to achieve for the benefit of muslims.
There are more muslim run colleges in Tamil Nadu than elementary and high schools. Most of the muslim run colleges do not have any sympathy for poor muslims. They just look for donations, donations and donations. Whoever ready to pay donations, will be given seat irrespective of their religion. In 1978, after completing my PUC in Voorhees college Vellore with good marks, I applied in a Muslim run college near Vellore, they refused to admit me because I did not have 1500 rupees to pay donation. Those days it was not a self-financing college. It was government aided minority college. Then I joined the government College and Alhamdulillah I am in better position now in North America. May Allah give the owner of this college good intention to help poor muslims.
It is heartening to know
It is heartening to know that a reputed Tamil poet Mr. Kavikko Abdur Rahman has been elected unanimously as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board which I think will be welcomed by all. It is perhaps for the first time that a literary figure who has a good Islamic knowledge and an urge for community services has become the head of the board. We extend our hearty congratulations to him. The hon'ble Chief Minister Mr. M. Karunanidhi who is responsible for this deserves our whole-hearted thanks.
Mr. Rahman's remarks that he would endeavour to work for the betterment of the Muslim community by establishing a university which will provide free education to all, besides inaugurating industrial training institutes and elementary schools are most welcome. One hopes that the board will be in the limelight doing good works for the educational and economic upliftment of the community. As assured by him, the chief khazi Mr. Salahuddin Ayub, a great Islamic scholar, should be suitably accommodated in the wakf board in a better position. This is the urgent need of the hour.
TAMIL MUSLIMS ARE IN HORRIBLE STATE
VISIT TO MADRAS : This is not meant in the spirit of vilification or insult. It is meant in friendly spirit - to awaken - dust - and improve things.
I had heard from elders that Madras (Chennai) was a centre of quality education et al. I visited Madras twice and stayed for 15-20 days each time. I researched the condition of Muslims in Tamilnadu. I found out that their condition was horrible, not to use stronger language. The Muslims of Tamilnadu are probably at the lowest bar (thru-out India) when it came to academics. I saw Burka and Beard in Madras., but i did not hear one beautiful sentence in English ! Very bad voice., and very poor delivery. The condition of Muslims (3% of population) in Tamilnadu is pathetic. They have not adopted local culture/language nor do they have something International in its place. They cannot speak English well. They cannot speak Urdu-Hindi well. They do not speak Tamil well. I did not find even one (1) Muslim student in the IIT Chennai. (IIT is not for muslims. For muslims its ITI. that is the message - we know it). I did not find any muslim student in the Madras Medical College. (Go to Pakistan... or pay 50 lakhs of haraam money and take a seat in the private college. Govt. colleges are Hindu-exclusive. thats the message). I did not find any muslim student in top madras college like Loyola.. etc.
The pop. percentage of muslims in Tamilnadu is 3 to 4 percent. There is no machinery for basic education. There are no HIGH SCHOOLS run by muslims. Tamilnadu Muslims have great potential - and they can realise it - provided they discard Hindi-Urdu, and also Tamil - and take to English and French., and set a trend. You dont become christian when you excel in English/French. You dont become a Muslim if you excel in urdu. All that mindset is wrong. In today's world of 2009, we need English/French. How many Muslim students learn French at the Alliance Franciase in Chennai ? Hayn ?
All Madras Muslims know only 4 suras (Qul).. they pray.. there is the beard.. the dupatta on the head (ears exposed).. there are Mullanis and Tullanis.. who dont know English, nor urdu-hindi, nor tamil. Their economic condition is also not remarkable - though there is social peace in Tamilnadu - and they can excel in fields of business and enterprise. Tamilnadu Muslims must not go for Haj for 5 years... instead all the money spent by TN Muslims on Haj., be pooled together and they better open 5 Quality High Schools in Tamilnadu. That will change the GROUND REALITY.
TN Wakf Board (like wakf boards thru-out india) is a dead-horse. Powerless. No record. Files stolen / missing. Properties sold / illegally occupied by politicians / Graveyards illegally occupied by RSS / Bajrang Dal goons. That is the reality Tamilnadu Muslims have the quality... but they must dust off the language barrier... excel in English/French and take to Math & Physics as their new LOVE. Slowly and surely things will change. Tamilnadu, Kerala, and Andhra Muslims must rise first. Then Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.. like this.. slowly.. slowly.. This may take 20 yrs... but so be it. Grass roots work changes society. Where is the grass roots work in TN. Just dupattas and beards. Elder brother's Kurta., and younger brother's pyjamas ! (Feet exposed). This is not the way you build a community. Establish your own schools. Quality Education is key. Dont go for fake Doctorate Degrees. In TN., everyone is a Doctor. Even the Auto-wallah is a Dr. XYZ.
Muslims NOT good in education so give reservation
Tamil Muslims and Muslims all over India are "are not good in studies" so Muslims want reservation to get into IIT, Medical Collage etc. Thus Muslims are openly accepting that they are intellectually inferior to Hindus and Christians, which is why Muslims are getting kicked around all over the world including "The Promised Land of Indian Muslims"- Pakistan.
Muslims must get out of the strangle hold of "Quran, Hadiths and Mullahs" if they are to prosper. "Qur'an is true because Muhammed said so and Muhammed is the last prophet because the Qur'an says so". If ALLAH could save "anyone", the AHL-AL- BYAT -the entire family of Muhammad- would NOT have died such a horrible death at KARBALA.
An Open Letter to Br. Kaviko Abdur-Rahman on Waqf.
Assalamu Alaikum Brother Kaviko Abdur-Rahman,
Alhamdulillah, congratulations on your appointment as the Chairman of the Waqf Board of Tamil Nadu by the CM of TN. May one True Almighty God Give you the confidence, strength and dedication to carry out some of the reforms and programmes that you have enlisted.
Your list of programmes are impressive.
If we can recover the Waqf properties from the sharks that are milking the benefits, we do not need to beg the Government for finances to empower the Muslims economically, educationally and employment wise.
The Waqf fund (capital) is enough to generate sufficient funds to stand on our own feet. But the big question is who is going to bell the cat.
I suggest the following
1. Prepare a White Paper listing all the encroached Waqf properties and release this report in all newspapers and magazines (particularly the Muslim ones). Be specific, there is very little benefit in vague description and vague statistics.
2. There are about 3000 Muslim lawyers in Tamil Nadu (my estimate, I may be wrong) Form a Muslim Lawyers Association of Tamil Nadu. This Association should
form a small steering committee to with the main aim of taking PIL ( Public Interest Litigation) against those who have encroached the Waqf properties.
The 3000 lawyers should divide themselves into small groups (say five each) to be given a specific case on a specific Waqf property.
We can collect donations from the Muslim public to make gratuitous payment to the lawyer volunteers,( I am ready to pay Rs 1000) though mostly their work will be almost 90% voluntary.
Every Chairman of the Waqf Board for the past 62 years has been saying almost the same thing about recovering the Waqf properties and utilising them for the benefit of the Ummah, but no one has had the absolute power, political will and political support to carry out the measures.A lot of empty promises, deception and rhetoric.
I hope you will be able to do some thing drastic to make the Ummah remember your services for a very long time to come.
May Allah swt Bless you and family and Bless your Islam based work
P.A.Mohamed Ameen.
Tamil Muslims...
Assalamu Alikum.....
I was very happy to read the last Paragraph of this news. The big questions is who will tie the bell to cat.
Good Luck.
Zainudeen
its impossible
Many BJP/RSS leaders have encroached upon Wakf Property(ies) throughout India over the past 60 yrs; as the State Govt(s) looked the other way ! Possession is 9 points in law (out of 10). Once possession is lost, who has the power to evict the person on the ground ? 3rd party transactions have taken place. What is lost, is lost for ever.
Can the TN Wakf Board, with political support (DMK/ AIADMK) re-claim the properties it has lost ? Wakf Board has no powers. No records. Cases have been going on for 60 years., while property(ies) have changed hands.
Ah ! Paradise lost. Can it be regained : NO.
