Calicut University’s step-motherly treatment of Arabic course
By Najiya O., TwoCircles.net
Cochi: Afzal-Ul-Ulama Preliminary exams began, amidst fears regarding the bleak chances of higher studies. The exam was to be conducted in the first week of April, but is now late by two months. Only those who have passed the exam can join the degree courses.
The Afzal-Ul-Ulama Preliminary is an equivalent of intermediate, completing which; students can study BA Arabic or BA Afzal-Ul-Ulama. The course is now offered only by the Calicut University.
The exams will be over only on 7th July. Announcement of results will still be late. Applications for degree courses have already been invited. By the time the results of Afzal course are out, time for applying to degree courses will have ended. So, it is feared that the students will not be able to join degree course this year.
“The detestation of the Calicut University towards Arabic is the reason for this delay in exams,” said M Muhammed Moulvi, Principal, Hidayath Arabic College, Manjeri, in Malappuram district. “The University is trying to take this course off. The Kannur and Kerala Universities have already taken off the Afzal-Ul-Ulama Preliminary course. There, any student completing +2 (12th) can study BA Afdhalul Ulema. The university is trying for the same here too.”
Last year, the exam was held in the end of May. Private colleges outcome this problem by beginning classes of BA Afzal-Ul-Ulama before the Preliminary results are published. All those who have written the Preliminary exam can attend classes. When the result is published, those who have failed will have to go out, of course.
“Same is the case with the BA Afzal-Ul-Ulama exams too,” added Muhammed Moulvi. Exams of the BA courses too are delayed till all other exams are over.
Student organizations accuse that the negligence of the University is going to cost the students a valuable year. The date of exams itself was announced because of the pressure and protest of organizations like the Muslim Students’ Federation. They demand that the students be provided necessary facilities for higher studies.
BA Afzal-Ul-Ulama is equivalent to BA Arabic course. Those who have completed the course can go for MA Arabic.

CAlicut univ Arabic Coure
I just cannot believe this! Somebody is complaining about a delay in conducting an Arabic exam ; and then saying this delay will cause them seats in some frucking Al--dilal or Ul-Ulma courses!
What world are we in? Why do we have to have Arbic courses? Study English or Hindi. Study Science. Study Engg...
Please, my fellow Muslim countrymen, this is too much..You acn continue to have many Arabic programs, but keep in mind-- each Arabic program will put you two steps behind..
I do not have an issue in a language being taught. But let it be something one can use in life.
If I weer a Muslim, I will request for more Engg or Medicine or Science or Astronomy or
something like that..and not complain about this al--ameer or whatever..In fact, when i hear words like that, I wonder are we in India or in the 8th ecntury world of Saudi Arabia (they are still in 3rd cventury!)
Gopi Thomas in High School
Gopi Thomas, do you study in a High School ? Look at your msg. Every line has 2 mistakes of both grammar and syntax. Having said that., while i understand the gist of your msg., i do not agree to its intent. Leave it to the person concerned. If XYZ wants to study Physics Math or Chemistry that is fine. If ABC wants to study Arabic or Sanskrit., there must be a provision where such student can fulfil his ambition. It is the job of the society / govt. to provide facilities where everyone is able to take the call of his heart. You cannot have an assembly-line. Individual talents are unique and different. We cannot go in for mass-production. While i have great love for Physics, Chemistry and Math (pure sciences)., i understand the worth of Humanities (languages, arts, etc). The benefits of PCM are tangible. Research, scientific advancements., etc... but the benefits that accrue from Humanities are like dew. They fall very silently on society - but they are vitally necessary for the survival of a society. Are you getting my point... or is too much for a High School Student.
Read some books. Some classics. Read some books that present Islam. Read some literature that presents the RSS world-view. Then decide which is natural., which is eclectic., which is close to humanism., and what makes man into a programmed hate-monster. There is a world beyond Kerala... okay. Kerala is a small state in the Union of India ! Do you want to know why i used the word "Union" instead of the wrongly used word "Centre" ?
Dont form opinions based on SMS text msgs. SMS is good for Grade VIII and IX., but if you are in Grade X (SSC/ICSE/CBSE)., then you must write properly without grammatical / syntax errors and read classics. That is expected of a Matriculate.
And "Matriculation" is quite a big qualification. Sanjiva Reddy was a Matriculate... We Muslims need Matriculates of that "calibre". Not mass-produced degree-holders like XYZ. Samjhey Gopi Thomas....
Lets study Science and
Lets study Science and engineering in Hindi, Malayalam or Urdu....so we dont need english at all. This way we can get rid of unnecessary foreign import called english!!! and focus more on eastern language like arabic!!! or do you think in UK and USA do they have hindi dept...
And as far as I know half of your brothers and sisters (labors) work hard in gulf and I believe it is arabs broadmindedness and tolerance that they dont make you learn Arabic. Can you ever dream of staying and working in Europe and doing menial jobs without learning there language. So you European/christian slave shut up!!! If you love english so much then go to England or Australia and let me see how you dark skinned monkeys treated there.
