Thiruvananthapuram : His party may be sharing the dais with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany, but Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan feels that only a full enquiry will exonerate the Muslim leader from allegations of terror links.
“It has neither been confirmed nor denied. I had a discussion with the anti-terror squad chief and he said that they have to conduct more enquires and then only can it be known if the allegations against Maudany are true,” Achuthanandan told reporters here Wednesday.
The latest controversy surfaced after media, early this month, showed police reports that alleged that few people arrested in connection with the Bangalore bomb blast last year had links with Maudany. This has been denied by the PDP leader on more than one occasion.
Both Maudany and the Congress Party of India-Marxists (CPI-M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan shared a campaign platform last week for the Ponanni Lok Sabha seat. Both the Congress-led opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party severely criticised the move.
“Investigations are going on and the present sharing of dais between Maudany and the CPI-M leaders is nothing but an electoral understanding,” said Achuthanandan.
Maudany has also been accused of having links with two Malayali youth killed in Jammu and Kashmir Oct 26, 2008 while attempting to cross the line of control.
The PDP in the 2001 assembly polls had supported the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
