Ulema Council convener booked for poll code violation

Lucknow : The Ulema Council’s convener, Maulana Amir Rashadi Madni, and 20 supporters in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district have been booked for violating the model code of conduct by holding a public meeting and using loudspeakers without permission, police said Thursday.

“A case against Maulana Madni and 20 of his supporters has been registered,” police inspector R.K. Bharti told IANS. The case was registered Wednesday night.

The Ulema Council has fielded candidates for five Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh: Azamgarh, Lalganj, Jaunpur, Machlishahr and Lucknow.
