By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Kochi: The stories being spread by the Sangh Parivar organisations and certain media in the name of the imaginary organisation called ‘Love Jihad’ will affect the social atmosphere of the state adversely, said the joint statement of the leaders of Muslim organisations. They added that all those concerned should withdraw from such propaganda which is helpful only to communalise the society and to create suspicion in relations.

‘Love Jihad’ is a term coined by extremist Sangh Parivar organisations. Jihad is one of the fundamental technical terms in Islam. The Sangh Parivar has coined this term in order to use it for wrong goals. However, the approach of accepting the Sangh term should not have occurred from the courts and official institutions. It is not welcome that the Constitutional bodies like courts be a part in the propaganda unleashed by the Sangh Parivar and certain media. It is essential for the good of the society that all including courts keep away from responses that create communal divisions.

Portraying the immature love in campuses with the name ‘love jihad’ is like offending religious communities. The Kerala government’s affidavit submitted at the High Court, mentioning that there were situations to suspect that the love jihad was there in Kerala, is condemnable, said the leaders.

The freedom to accept any faith is a part of the fundamental human rights accepted globally. Approaches that interfere in this fundamental right are nowadays coming up extensively. The civil society and the human rights organisations should intervene to uphold the individual’s right to choose his/her religion or non-religion. Love and running away exist among the youth irrespective of any religion or caste. But, it does not converse with the common intelligence to spread that it is an organised programme that Muslims take up with foreign funding. The government has the responsibility to bring before law those who spread propaganda that create tensions in the society. The approach of some of the mainstream media in the matter is quite anxious and worrying. The leaders expressed hope that they would correct their mistakes keeping away from the dangerous propaganda.
