In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Shabnam Hashmi protested at the government failure to investigate fake encounters all over the country especially the Batla House Encounter which anniversary falls tomorrow.

She said that she can not turn her back on the blood drops of the innocents who have been target of these fake encounters. The blood of Atif and Sajid who have been killed in Batla House Encounter exactly a year ago are asking for justice. Government has repeatedly rejected the demands to conduct a judicial probe in this encounter which human rights organizations allege to be a fake encounter.

Ms. Hashmi says that encounters of Ishrat Jahan, Sohrabuddin, and Sameer Khan was also projected as encounters of terrorists but now it has been proven that these were fake encounters. In the letter addressed to the Prime Minister and written before the iftar time today, Hashmi says that behind her computer there are two pictures of Atif and Sadjid titled ‘Lest We Forget.” These pictures clearly show wounds that are result of torture though the police claimed that they were killed in a shoot out. She preferred to join the march tonight to observe the anniversary of the Batla House encounter.

The iftar party hosted by the Prime Minister was attended by Vice-President Hamid Ansari and BJP leader LK Advani, among others.
