After reports of corruption, Maharashtra Wakf Board CEO transferred

By Mohammed Rehan Ansari, TwoCircles.net,

Mumbai: Amid increasing allegations and charges of corruption in Maharashtra Wakf Board (MWB), CEO of MWB, Sadique Ali Qadri has been transferred.

While announcing the CEO’s transfer, Arif Nasim Khan, the Minister of Wakf said, “Due to complain of corruption, illegal transfer, sale of Wakf properties and the charges against the Maharashtra Wakf Board, its CEO, S. A. Qadri has been transferred.”

The Minister further explained, “Among general charges of corruption, there are specific charges against Mr. Qadri, of transferring one of the wakf property of Khuldabad to his relative, for instance.”

Ms. Shahin Qadri, the deputy secretary, department of Minority Affair, Maharashtra, has been appointed as the ad hoc CEO of MWB.

A high level inquiry is being commissioned to look into the matter of corruptions and illegal sale of Wakf properties, he added.

It seems that only the transfer of MWB, CEO is not enough precisely because, the CEO alone can’t issue the NOC for the sale of Wakf properties.

TwoCircles.net is in possession of documents that show that all the 4 members of MWB, including the newly appointed ad hoc CEO have approved the NOC for the sale of Wakf Properties.

After reports of corruption in the Wakf board, opposition leaders along with many Muslim MLA’s like Nawab Malik, had raised the issue in the Maharashtra assembly and demanded a CBI or CID inquiry.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan and Minister of Minority Affairs and Wakf, Arif Nasim Khan have assured the assembly of a high level enquiry by the additional chief secretary of the concerned department.

TCN, through its series of stories, has reported about the corruption and irregularities in the Wakf properties in Maharashtra.
