Iftar in an American masjid
Photo feature by Kashif-ul-Huda, TwoCircles.net
Drive past farm-lands and old houses to arrive at Sharon Masjid or Islamic Center of New England in Sharon, Massachusetts. Nestled among trees it is a beautiful two-story masjid situated on a hill-top. First floor has place for making wudu and bathrooms while the top floor is musalla and also doubles up as a meeting hall.

Special care has been taken to keep the youth involved with a full basketball court and a weekend Islamic school on the premises.

I arrived about half an hour before iftar time to see kids playing basketball, women reading quran or talking to their friends, and men busy at work preparing for iftar and maghrib prayers.

Men busy preparing dinner packets.

Dinner-packets ready to be consumed. Biryani, chicken, salad, and raita in each packet.

With two parking lots full, ten year old Hasan directs traffic to the overflow parking.

Close to Maghrib time, people line up for iftar. Africans, Americans, Arabs, Indians, Pakistanis all in one line.

With iftar in hand, men wait patiently for Maghrib azan.

Time for maghrib prayer.

Young ones still praying while older people lined up for dinner packets.

Here is web-link of an article published in a U.S. News Paper, about a young and budding Muslimah, who is practicing obligatory Ramadan Fast - while carrying out her normal chores:

It is an example, for others to learn.

Minarettes???
Nice. But one thing I noticed is that the Masjid is not in the normal way. There are no minarettes and dome. Are they prohibited in this country?
No ban on Minarettes in U.S.A.
At-least until now, there is NO SUCH BAN on construction of Minarettes in U.S.A.
There are many Masajids with Minarettes, Domes, etc. in U.S.A. and many Churches have NOT ONLY domes, but also a "Cross" above dome.
Here is a recent report about a 62-foot Jesus statue struck by lightning and destroyed:

Here is a website of one of a famous Masjid in Cincinati, OH which is also a landmark, as it can be seen from a long-distance on highway:
http://www.icgc.info/
Cincinati Masjid Minarette is NOT-ONLY a landmark for it's wonderful architecture, but I understand it is a "brain-child" of a Muslim Architect, who provided major funding in the construction of this Masjid.
Here is a web-site of another Masjid located in Irving, TX - which is also located on a highway - and is famous for it's architecture - including minarette and dome. FYI this Masjid, being situated in vicinity of Dallas/Fort Worth International airport, is visible to many travelers while landing at airport - day or night:

Nihas, it requires "extra" leg-work for builders to obtain city permit(s), and funding - which is a bit difficult to get easily, if not impossible.
You may know, North American rules are "more liberal" than that of European countries. In-fact most Americans migrated from Europe to escape from religious persecution in their own countries, before generations.
