Gujarat: Zidni Ilma Charitable Trust distributes Rs. 20 lakh among 204 poor students studying in professional courses

Ahmedabad: Zidni Ilma Charitable Trust run by noted human rights activist J S Bandukwala distributed Rs. 20 lakh of financial assistance among 204 students coming from poor background from all over the state.

All these students are studying medical, engineering and other professional courses.

The money was given to students through bank cheques at a function in Vadodara last Sunday.

A part of the money collected by the trust had been donated by the Nobel Chemistry laureate Dr. Venky Ramakrishnan.

The trust also supports educational expenses of 148 children of POTA detenus of Godhra and 23 other children of Ahmedabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Bandukwala said that since most of the students studied in private engineering and medical engineering colleges charging very high fees and it was beyond the capacity of the parents of these children. Giving details, while annual fees in a government medical college in the state were Rs. 6000 but it was as high as Rs. 3.5 lakhs in private institutions.

The function was attended among others by noted Gujarati writer Prakash Shah, Bharuch-based Iqra School chairman Maulana Habibur Rahman Matadad and Nadiad-based activist Ibrahim Memon.
