The revelation came in reply to a query under Right to Information (RTI) plea filed by activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal who had sought details regarding judges elevation.

“It is seen that you have requested for the lists of the names of the judges whose files were returned by Rashtrapati Bhavan in case of elevation to the high court or to the Supreme Court,” the law ministry said in its reply.

“In this connection, it is to be mentioned that no such list is maintained by this department and therefore, no information can be furnished,” it added.

The ministry said it also didn’t have records of chief justices of different high courts who have been superseded in elevation to the Supreme Court and which has drawn objections from different quarters.
