Malaysian elected chairman of IAEA's Board of Governors

Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia's ambassador to Qatar Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob has been elected chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the foreign ministry said in a statement Monday.
Muhammad Shahrul Ikram was elected unanimously during a special meeting of the board Feb 12, and will serve as the board chairman until September this year, the ministry said.
The Malaysian government has appointed him as its new governor to the board Feb 4 this year, Xinhua reported.
Muhammad Shahrul Ikram has immense experience in multilateral affairs, having served in various capacities at the ministry and at Malaysian missions abroad, the ministry said.
