Basu's poster seen torched in Kolkata

By IANS,

Kolkata : Tension ran high in Kolkata's eastern fringes of Tiljala area as a poster of deceased Marxist icon Jyoti Basu was found torched Thursday.

"A poster of Jyoti Basu was seen torched this morning at Tiljala's C.N Roy Road. We highly condemn this incident," senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and the party's central committee member Shyamal Chakraborty said.

He said people would definitely raise their voice against such an undignified act.

"Public outrage is quite obvious," he said.

"But I appeal to all my party supporters and those who loved the veteran communist leader not to do anything which will affect normal life," Chakraborty said, alleging that the disgraceful act was carried out by local Trinamool Congress supporters.

The torched poster was first seen by a group of rickshaw pullers in the area who later informed the local CPI-M party office about the incident.

A police complaint was also lodged at the local Tiljala police station.
