TCN seeks nomination for Person of the Year 2010

TwoCircles.net invites its readers to nominate for TwoCircles.net Person of the Year 2010 honor. Please nominate person or organization that has contributed most for the welfare of Muslims of India. List important event/contribution in the period between May 2009 to May 2010.
TwoCircles.net staff will short-list the nomination received and put the list out for voting. Winner will be decided from a list of top ten nominations getting most votes. This will be submitted to a jury consisting of TwoCircles.net staff and a few others.
Last date for nomination: July 16th, 2010

I nominate Prof.K.A.Siddique Hassan as the person of the Year 2010.
He was the main moving spirit in venturing to establish MADHYAMAM DAILY, the third largest circulated Malayalam Daily published from 7 locations from Kerala, 2 from Karnataka and 7 from Gulf countries. It is the largest circulated Malayalam Daily outside Kerala. So also in the case of establishing the Shariah compliant Non Banking Finance Company licensed by the RESERVE BANK OF INDIA, viz, ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS AND CREDITS LIMITED(AICL).
He is also the architect and the moving spirit behind VISION 2016, the activities of which are:
a.Funding for quality education mainly at primary(16 in 2009-10@Rs5 lakhs each) and secondary level, capacity building and improvement of existing schools (4 schools 10 lakhs each in 2009-10), establishing schools including Vocational Technical schools(5 in 2009-2010), hostels(one-105 girls in 2009-10), Career Guidance Centres, awarding scholarships(7697 in 2009-10) and academic excellence(750 in 2009-10), Budding Talents Promotion Scheme, 2200 school bags distributed in 2009-10, Orphan Care Programme(2000 orphans in 2009-10) etc.
b.Health Programmes like setting up speciality hospitals(one 300 bedded in 2009-10), medical centres and clinics(10 hospitals and 79 clinics in 2009-10), medical aid(Rs.10mn among 35000 patients in 2009-10), mobile medical units and ambulance services and 200 free medical camps benefitting over 1 lakh in the interior villages, setting up blood and drug banks and organising blood donors groups in various parts of the country, especially in rural and semi urban areas.
c.Poverty Alleviation Programmes like setting up Interest-free societies(328 in 09-10 Rs155.44lakhs), microfinance societies, self employment aid(Rs.30.41 lakhs for 6434), 100 Rikshaw distributed in 09-10 etc. A dedicated national level NGO for Microfinance was established to take over these programmes.
d.Reaching out to the victims of natural calamities like, Kosi flood relief and rehabilitation, AP flood relief etc. To work effectively in the field of emergency relief and rehabilitation, an NGO named Society for Bright Future(SBF) under which 5000 volunteers are being trained in fire fighting, first aid, mountaineering, swimming, traffic control etc.
e.Protecion of Civil Rights by founding the Association for Protection of Civil Rights(APCR). APCR conducted Workshops and seminars to educate the public about their civil rights in various parts of the country like Lucknow, Goa(Margao) Azamgarh, Bangaluru, Kolkata,Patna, Ranchi,Delhi etc.
f. Community Building and Housing to houseless.In 09-10, 20 houses were built in Assam destitutes.
The above activities are designed to equip individuals,irrespective of religion,caste or region, to become an equal partner in the progress of the nation and helping the sufferers of natural calamities to move towards a world, free from hunger,ignorance, deprivation and exploitation.
The Mission being to serve the deserving through various community service projects.
The umbrella organization to co-ordinate the above, an NGO named Human Welfare Trust was registered and Prof. Hassan is the General Secretary.
