Patna : After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, it was the turn of Bihar’s Rajya Sabha member Ejaj Ali – who was suspended for unruly behaviour in the Rajya Sabha over the women’s reservation bill last week – to be greeted with a garland of currency notes Wednesday. The value of his garland was put at Rs.1 lakh.
Ali, clad in his usual white kurta-pajama and wearing a white cap, was received by his supporters with a garland of currency notes on his arrival from New Delhi at the Patna airport. The ctrowd of his supporters waited for hours to receive him after he hit the headlines for opposing the women’s reservation bill last week.
“A big and heavy marigold garland fully covered with currency notes was made by his supporters,” said Mohammed Farman, one of Ali’s supporters.
Ali was one of the seven MPs who were suspended from the Rajya Sabha.
Farman said the currency notes in the garland were worth Rs.1 lakh.
“It was nothing but a gesture of love by my supporters towards me,” Ali said.
Ali told mediapersons that he will continue to oppose the women’s quota bill in its present form. He demanded the present bill be scrapped and a fresh bill moved in parliament.
Ali was last year expelled from the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) for anti-party activities. His term as a Rajya Sabha member ends in April this year.
