Malaysian Indian enterprises need 100,000 foreign workers
By IANS,
Kuala Lumpur : Projecting a requirement of 100,000 foreign workers, a Malaysian Indian trade body wants a dialogue with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak over the prevailing shortage of foreign labour in the country.
Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce of Industry (Maicci) president K.K. Eswaran said various trade associations had sought the chamber's help to resolve their labour shortage.
"We have compiled a memorandum detailing the needs of the various associations to present to Najib," Eswaran said.
Eswaran said the associations needed more than 100,000 foreign workers in various sectors, including Indian restaurants, second-hand metal shops, construction, jewellery outlets, mini-markets and provision shops.
"The associations were unsuccessful in their efforts to recruit locals," The Star quoted him as saying Sunday.
Eswaran said they were also proposing that each trade association be allowed to act as the recruiting agent for its members.
"In doing so, foreign workers can be monitored by the association and members will be accountable for any wrongdoing by the foreign workers."
Malaysian Indian Metal Traders and Recyclers Association (Mimta) president P. Krishnamurthy said it needed 15,000 general workers as the locals were not prepared for the tedious work.
"They perceive it as low in status and involved working in an unhealthy work environment," he said.
Krishnamurthy said the shortage could be resolved if the government extended the existing permits or allowed the companies replacements for the foreign workers who had returned to their countries.
Malaysia is home to nearly two million ethnic Indians who settled here during the British era.
The government has during the global recession tightened rules on the intake of foreign workers to fight unemployment among the locals.

This problem will remain until Indian FM and HRD solves
Reading above article, and after following various articles about issues relating to Indian Workers in foreign countries, it appears there is a WELL-KNIT NEXUS between Recruiting Agencies operating in India, foreign companies requiring overseas workers, and "maybe" employees of those companies.
There was another article recently on TCN published on March 10, 2010 reporting forged visas of 22 engineers stranded in Saudi Arabia, for not their fault. Read this:

As long as, Indian workforce show desperate need to earn "foreign exchange" for better living in India OUT OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE / EARNINGS, these scrupulous VULTURES i.e. Recruiting Agencies in India AND foreign companies will OPERATE, ABUSING UNDER GRAY / LIBERAL Indian Workers Export Policies.
It is the duty of Indian FM (foreign ministry), and our HRD (Human Resources Development) Ministry, to "delve" into the issues and "solve" - either internally or externally or jointly TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE.
An Indian
P.S.:
------
To solve this issue, GOI need to "hold" Indian Recruiting Agencies RESPONSIBLE to, RETURN any fee they COLLECTED FROM INDIAN WORKERS, for a period of minimum TWO-YEARS from date of leaving India on "foreign employment". In addition, there should be a "penalty" on RECRUITING AGENCIES for any fault, or complain from Indian Workers recruited through their agency.
These people are
These people are masquerading as bona fide organisation but in thru facts they are major players in human trafficking and slavery. For info each foreign they brought into this country and dump them after airport clearance a nett profit of RM 2,500.00 to RM 3,500.00. Their modus operandi after airport clearance they consfiscate the workers passport, after 30 days in this country they gave information to the authorities to arrest these workers and the authorities will detained and charged them staying without valid travel documents, after in jail they were sent to detention camp pending deportation. This may take a few years. The Malaysian government has no will to stop this but intangible licence to those who wish to be human traffickers provided they gave part of it those policy makers in the government.
