New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Monday submitted a memorandum to Prme Minister Manmohan Singh demanding a relief package of Rs.5,000 crore for flood-ravaged Utttarakhand.
The mountainous state has been hit by devastating floods after two days of incessant rains, killing over 61 people.
The memorandum, signed by five senior BJP leaders, including BJP parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani said that the central government should immediately release Rs.5,000 crore for relief to the state.
Further, it asked for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force to be deployed for relief work in the BJP-ruled state.
“Additional support, manual, material, technical and financial, to strengthen and reinforce to Border Road Organisation (BRO) be immediately put in place. Similar action is required to be undertaken with respect to National Highways Authority of India,” said the memorandum.
There was also demand for a team of experts from Central Water Commission to be stationed to monitor the Tehri Dam.
