Announcing the agitation, here in Marathi Patrakar Sangh on Monday, Mushir Ahmed Ansari, said, “Muslims came under OBC category after the Mandal Commission in 1995 but Maharashtra government issued G.R. on 9th August 1995 that stipulates residential proofs of 1967 and amended later, a proof of OBC in 1967 which is near to impossible.”

He further complained about the non cooperative behavior of bureaucrats who never do a Residential inquiry as mentioned in the GR.

He quoted the observations of state government that “There is no particular caste mentioned in School Leaving Certificate of Muslims. Only word Muslim or Muslaman is used. Therefore, the competent authority should consider this fact. Hence, “Grah Chowksi”, Residential inquiry may be made for the verification of their case to establish the proof and if found true should issue them a Caste Certificate.”

L to R: Mushir Ansari, President Muslim All Backward Clsses Organisation; Hasan Kamal, Editor Sahafat; Nabi Idris Qureishi.

Hasan Kamal, Mentor of the organization noted that Muslims do not have cast systems and their occupations does not reflect their cast so it’s difficult for the government to decide who is the OBC in Muslims.

He further said that more than 80 per cent Muslims are self employed and associated with some professions or occupations so they all should be treated as OBC. The other option he put forward for the government is forming of an inquiry commission to find out Muslims associated with the professions of their counterpart in Hindu community and put them under OBC.

Mushir Ahmed Ansari also mentioned that 72 Muslim OBC communities make up 80 per cent of Muslim populations in Maharashtra.

They demanded that the state government must solve these problems so that Muslim OBCs can get the benefits in educations and employment.
