Guwahati: A total of 56 candidates, i.e. 14%, (out of 395 analyzed) are crorepatis who are contesting the second phase of election in 64 constituencies in Assam are crorepatis – i.e. 14%, (out of 395 analyzed). The elections are going to be held on April 11. The Assam Election Watch (AEW) has released a list of candidates of the second phase of the Assembly elections and their assets. 27% of the candidates of the INC and 21% of the AGP candidates are crorepatis.
Party-wise crorepati candidates as per AEW research based on affidavits are as follows:

Average-wise, the highest is that of the AIUDF 1.41 crores, followed by the INC and the AGP with the average asset of a candidate as 94.16 lakhs and 88.55 lakhs respectively.

Out of the 395 candidates analyzed, the number of men candidates is 354 whereas the number of women candidates is only 41. According to the AEW research, in 2006 Assam Assembly elections only 22 candidates out of the 251 analyzed were crorepatis, i.e. 9%. The new report shows a clear increase in the number of crorepatis entering politics in the state.
