“Our alliance partner Trinamool Congerss and its leader have repeatedly said that they have no relation with the Maoists. So there is no question regarding it,” said Mukherjee when asked to react on the allegations on the issue raised by the Left Front in West Bengal.

Mukherjee also attacked the Left Front for failing to live up to the expectations of the people given a clear mandate for last three decades.

“The Left Front had a clear mandate for last three decades. They had the support of all the sections of the people. But they couldn’t live up to the expectations. They could have performed better, but they failed,” said Mukherjee.

The senior leader hailed the alliance between the Trinamool and Congress saying that the people of Bengal demanded it.

“The alliance between Trinamool and Congress is the demand of the people of Bengal. It was first demonstrated in the 2009 elections that the Congress and Trinamool can defeat the Left Front,” said Mukherjee.

“We think it is possible to form a non-Left government in the state after many years. My assessment is the Trinamool-Congress combine will win the election,” he added.

The first of the six-phase assembly elections in the state will be held April 18.
