Save girl child conference organized in Panipat

Panipat: The second Beti Bachao (save the girl child) conference was organized on April 25 and 26 in Panipat, Haryana by the National Alliance for People’s Movement (NAPM) and Asha Parivar. The conference was jointly inaugurated by Chaudhary Virendar Singh, general secretary All India Congress Committee, Manimala, the social activist and writer, Veena behen from Gandhi Global Family and eminent Pakistani peace activist Saeeda Deep.

Faisal Khan of NAPM said that the purpose of the conference was not only to accelerate but also strengthen the campaign against the menace of female infanticide across India. He also emphasized on the need for more and more Muslim organizations to associate themselves with the campaign to save the girl child.

More than seven hundred people from fourteen states of the country participated in the conference. The participants expressed an urgent need to include more and more organizations to the campaign. Save Girl Child Campaign was jointly started in Ambala last year by activist from 14 states working on the issue. It had been decided to meet once in a year in order to further strengthen and propagate the campaign.



The participants also discussed how to increase the implementation of several schemes regarding the issue at the local as well as the national level. At the conclusion of the conference, a national level committee was constituted to strengthen the campaign against female infanticide.
